  Dara Meyers-Kingsley is a film and video art curator specializing in collections management, preservation and exhibitions; she is a founding member and Director of Independent Media Arts Preservation, Inc. (IMAP) and has consulted for VidiPax. She served as Director of the Film and Video Collections at The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts (1993–1996) and as film and video program curator at The Brooklyn Museum (1987–1993), organized 20 exhibitions, curated the touring Adrian Piper retrospective MEDI(t)Ations (1999–2001), and served on granting panels and selection committees for arts organizations.

• Jim Lindner People

  Jim Lindner, President of VidiPax, has 30 years of experience in audio and video production and preservation of magnetic media; in 1991 the Andy Warhol Foundation asked him to help play back videotapes Warhol recorded in the 1970s, and he spent the next two years developing techniques to save the disintegrating collection. He founded VidiPax to share preservation knowledge and assist endangered libraries and archives; he received awards including the Anthology Film Archives Preservation Award and has published articles and given seminars at professional associations, universities, and museums. In spring 1996 Lindner testified as a key witness and panel member before the Library of Congress concerning the growing crisis facing magnetic tape.

  New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) begins to administer New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) funded film, video and screenwriting fellowships

• Meeting the Challenges of Video Preservation: A Progress Report on Initiatives within the Media Arts Field by Media Alliance Preservation

  Media Alliance (founded 1979) is a New York State advocacy and service organization for independent media arts that led a 1991 national video survey and symposium with NYSCA, supported Deirdre Boyle's Video Preservation (1993), and applied to NEH for a cooperative catalog of over 8,000 titles across twelve New York institutions. The report documents Playback 1996 organized with BAVC (March 29–30, 1996) at the Museum of Modem Art with Getty and Andy Warhol Foundation funding, NAMID/FileMakerPro cataloging pilots producing over 1,800 records, and BAVC remastering and cleaning services for obsolete formats. Jim Hubbard authored the report and created Anthology Film Archives' first computer catalog under NAMID and a Jerome Foundation grant.

• Preservation Planning and Management Preservation

  Preservation Planning and Management provides guidance and a list of consultants and resources for audiovisual preservation, organized under sections for consultants, project planning and management, collection assessment and surveys, collection management, appraisals, and resources. It cites James C. Scholtz’s Developing and Maintaining Video Collections in Libraries (Santa Barbara, CA: CLIO, 1989) and notes the Magnetic Media Preservation Sourcebook available from Media Alliance; listings are provided as a service and are not endorsements by Media Alliance or the Experimental Television Center. Named consultants and institutions (including Boston Art Conservation; Heritage Resource Management Associates; Hollywood Vaults; the Image Permanence Institute at RIT; VidiPax; and others) are described with services such as collection assessment, appraisal, storage and environmental surveys, disaster planning, grant consultation, cataloging, and technical research on temperature, humidity and pollutants.
