Description from the catalog: "Six 23" monitors were buried in the woods along the Ames Theater trail so that only the screens were exposed, displaying images from the environment: close-ups of a tunnel spider and web, ripening berries, the sky seen through silhouettes of leaves, people walking, viewed from above.

  • Artpark Chronology

    Laurie McDonald, a member of Electron Movers assisted by Michael Carr, created the video installation Sylvanscapes at Artpark in Lewiston, NY. According to the catalog, phosphorescent chemicals were poured into three 100" lengths of clear flexible plastic tubing which were woven through the trees, rocks, and bushes of the Ames Theater trail to illuminate and draw through the woods; the tubing was then placed in the Niagara River at a point of changing currents with eddies and whirlpools. When currents ran downstream the lines were drawn 10" below the surface and diffused light, and when currents ran upstream sections surfaced and snaked to combine diffused and clearer light effects.

    Edward Tannenbaum, member of Electron Movers, presented a video installation titled LED Installation at Artpark in Lewiston, NY; the catalog states that 300 light emitting diodes were constructed, cast in resin and attached to small batteries. The LEDs were placed along cracks and crevices of the lower gorge trail and became visible at night before one's eyes became adjusted to the darkness.

  • "Video Maze" Chronology

    'Video Maze' was an exhibition of closed-circuit electronic sculpture by Electron Movers at the Everson Museum of Art, September 26–October 22, 1975; curated by Richard Simmons. The press release described participatory pieces using the museumgoer, emphasizing learning processes and perceptual development while exploring intersections of media; the six-member group—Robert and Dorothy Jungels, Laurie McDonals, Alan Powell, Dennis Hlynsky and Ed Tannenbaum—pooled funds, equipment and responsibilities. The walk-through maze featured video-feedback monitors, a cubicle that superimposed a visitor on a drawing and a dunking-for-apples piece using a hydrophone; a review appeared in the Syracuse Herald American on October 19, 1975.
