Avi Weider

Avi Zev Weider teamed up with novelist Paul Auster in 1997 to create the short film, I REMEMBER. This film, starring John Cameron Mitchell, premiered at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival, and then went on to a festival run lasting well over a year and a half. Director Atom Egoyan has said of it, "I couldn't imagine a more perfect total representation of this quirky literary masterpiece."

In 1998, Avi opened the production company Loop Filmworks. As Executive Producer, Avi wrote and produced over fifty award-winning spots for clients such as HBO, The American Red Cross, Bravo, Disney, MTV, Nickelodeon, Outdoor Life Channel, TRIO and the Sci-Fi Network. Avi also developed a television series for IFC. Avi is a 2008 fellow in Screenwriting from the New York Foundation for the Arts.

For the past three years Avi has focused on longer-form projects. His credits include: ZEROES AND ONES (Pre-Production) Narrative Feature- Writer/Director. In creating an intelligent machine out of discarded parts, a young woman uncovers her grandmother's long-buried secret of her survival from Auschwitz. This script was awarded the 2007 IFP Market Screenplay Award, the Panasonic Digital Filmmaking Grand Prize and was a winner of the Atlanta Film Festival Screenplay Competition. It was also selected as an Alfred P. Sloan foundation project for the 2008 Hamptons International Film Festival Screenwriters Lab.

30TH CENTURY MAN (Zeitgeist Films) Feature Doc - Associate Producer. Feature documentary about the music of the legendary Scott Walker as he re-enters the recording studio after decades of silence. Participants in the film are those artists he has influenced - including the likes of David Bowie and Radiohead. Selected for 2007 Berlin Film Festival and NY Premiere at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. 2007 BAFTA nominee.

CINEMANIA (2002) Feature Doc - Associate Producer. Highly-acclaimed documentary about the culture of intense cinephilia in New York City that reveals the impassioned world of five wildly obsessed movie buffs. "We loved it! These characters in CINEMANIA have clearly crossed over some line and can no longer be considered normal or sane. After watching this film, we are ready to cross that line ourselves." - D.A.     Howard Weinberg is an award-winning independent documentary film and television producer who created public and commercial television programming and whose reporting and producing aided major figures in American journalism. He produced the half-hour video Topless Cellist (Charlotte Moorman), commissioned as a tribute by collaborator Nam June Paik; the film originally broadcast on WNET/New York, was screened at the New York Film Festival, ran four months at Holly Solomon Gallery in SoHo, and has been shown on television and at museums and festivals worldwide.

    The Association of Independent Video and Filmmakers (AIVF) formed in the mid-1970s around organizers including John Culkin and founding board member and first president Ed Lynch; early activity comprised screenings, workshops and advocacy, notably a late-1974 Fifth Avenue Cinema series and a national campaign that defeated an AFI federal funding bill.
