Bill Morrison

Born 1965, Chicago. BFA 1989 Cooper Union School of Art. Lives in New York, NY.

Award-winning filmmaker Bill Morrison has five titles in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, including "Decasia" and "The Film of Her", which were also acquired by The Library of Congress and The Nederlands Filmmuseum. His work has been screened at The Tate Modern, Lincoln Center, The Whitney Museum, London's ICA, MassMOCA, The Wexner Center, BAM, The Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum among many other venues. His films have been broadcast on PBS, The Sundance Channel, and Arté, and have been featured at international film festivals worldwide, such as Sundance, Rotterdam, San Francisco and Edinburgh.

His projected set work with the acclaimed performance ensemble Ridge Theater has been recognized with two Bessie awards for excellence in theatrical design (1993, 2003) and a Village Voice Obie for collaborative design (2001). Bill has received grants from The Guggenheim Foundation, The Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts, NYSCA, NEA, NYFA and Creative Capital. www.decasia.com

  • Joe Gibbons People

    Joe Gibbons is an artist who received fellowships from funders including the New York Foundation for the Arts, Creative Capital and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. His work has been exhibited at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (NY), the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Centre Pompidou; it was selected for the Whitney Biennial in 1993, 2000 and 2002. His films have been broadcast in Spain, France and Germany and on PBS, and he has collaborated with Tony Oursler, Karen Finley, Tony Conrad and Emily Breer.

  • Peter Hutton People

    Peter Hutton, B.F.A., M.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute, taught at Hampshire College, Harvard University and SUNY Purchase; since 1984 he has been Professor of Film at Bard College. He is a filmmaker who has produced more than 20 films, mostly portraits of cities and landscapes worldwide; his work has been shown in major museums and festivals in the United States and Europe, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Biennial (1985, 1991, 1995, 2004). Since 1986 he has continued a series of landscape portraits of the Hudson River Valley and is developing projects in Bangladesh and Iceland; his grants include the National Endowment for the Arts, DAAD Berliner, Rockefeller Foundation, Dutch Film Critics Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship.

  • Sally Berger People

    Sally Berger is a video, film, and new media curator, lecturer, and writer who specializes in experimental video and non-fiction media; she is Assistant Curator in the Department of Film and Video at The Museum of Modern Art (1986 to the present) and works as an independent curator. She served as Executive Director of IFS from 1989-94; she is an international guest lecturer and programmer and writes on non-fiction practices, video art, and new media; she received an M.A. in Cinema Studies from New York University in 1999 and a B.A. from Fordham College at Lincoln Center in 1986.
