Caitlin Jones

Jones holds a combined research position in the Curatorial and Conservation departments at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Working in collaboration with the Daniel Langlois Foundation for Art, Science, and Technology and the Variable Media Network, she co-edited the publication "Permanence Through Change: The Variable Media Approach," and was co-curator of Seeing Double: Emulation in Theory and Practice at the Guggenheim.

Additionally, Jones was the curatorial assistant on the Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin exhibition, Nam June Paik: Global Groove 2004, and her writing on variable media preservation and presentation has appeared in a wide range of international publications. Her most recent article "My Art World is Bigger than Your Art World" can currently be found in the December/January issue of The Believer.

    On March 30–31, 2001 the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York hosted a conference introducing its Variable Media Initiative, led by Senior Curator John Hanhardt and Assistant Curator Jon Ippolito.   • Preserving the Immaterial: A Conference on Variable Media Chronology

    Preserving the Immaterial: A Conference on variable Media convened at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum on March 30–31, 2001; it focused on the museum's Variable Media Initiative and examined case studies of artworks in ephemeral media, including photo collages, film performances, video installations and Web sites. Artists, curators, conservators and media experts debated strategies for safeguarding works against deterioration, technological obsolescence and cultural amnesia. The program was organized by John G. Hanhardt, Senior Curator, and Jon Ippolito, Assistant Curator, Film and Media Arts Program; studied artists included Jan Dibbets, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Ken Jacobs, Robert Morris, Mark Napier, Nam June Paik and Meg Webster.

  • Laurie Beth Clark People

    Laurie Beth Clark was raised in New York City and holds a B.A., an M.A. in Visual Arts and an M.F.A.; since 1985 she has lived in Madison, Wisconsin, where she teaches Installation and Video and has held administrative roles. Her multidisciplinary practice uses video, performance, installation and multimedia to examine social issues; projects in Germany consider the holocaust and other genocides, and she is developing international research on trauma memorials and shopping environments. She received fellowships from Jerome and McKnight and published in anthologies such as A Performance Cosmology (Routledge, 2006).

  • Melinda Barlow People

    Melinda Barlow is Associate Professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder; she joined CU in 1996 after teaching at New York University, the School of Visual Arts, and Queens College, City University of New York. She edited Mary Lucier: Art and Performance (2000, Johns Hopkins University Press) and is a film and video historian specializing in contemporary independent women film and videomakers; her articles have appeared in journals including Camera Obscura and Art Journal. She received the Lyn Blumenthal Memorial Award and a CU Center for the Humanities and the Arts Fellowship in 2005; she founded the Leah Kelly Memorial Award and has a forthcoming book, Lost Objects of Desire (University of Minnesota Press).

  • Zhang Ga People

    Zhang Ga is a media artist and co-director of agent.netart who has exhibited internationally and who has curated exhibitions, organized conferences and digital salons. He initiated and directs the Millennium Dialogue: Beijing International New Media Arts Exhibition and Symposium and served on the curatorial committee of ISEA2006. He has taught at Parsons, joined the New York Institute of Technology as associate professor of communication arts, and studied at the Central School of Fine Arts in Beijing and the University of Arts in Berlin (UDK), holding an MFA from Parsons School of Design.
