  • Processing Trauma: The Media Art of Daniel Reeves Bibliography

    Daniel Reeves, an expatriate American living in Scotland and France, is a media artist whose single-channel videos and installations—including Smothering Dreams (1981), Obsessive Becoming (1995) and Try to Live to See This (1988)—employ layered image-processing, digital morphing, rotoscoping, archival footage and poetic narration to address trauma. Eingang: The Way In (1990) comprises seven reclaimed tree trunks with embedded monitors, bowls of water and stones and was exhibited at the High Museum and later at Montage '93 and Harvard (1994); The Hand That Holds Up All This Falling (Handwerker Gallery, Ithaca College, Oct 7–Dec 14, 1998) presented four installations, eight hand-painted digital composites, lantern slides, 16mm sound mag film and involved over 150 students, faculty and community members.

  • Tim Murray - Cornell U. Society for the Humanities People

    Timothy Murray is a Professor of Comparative Literature and English at Cornell University and a new media curator; he founded and curates The Rose Goldsen Archive of New Media Art at the Cornell University Library. He organized the traveling exhibition Contact Zones: The Art of CD-Rom (1999–2001) and co-curated the (off-line) 'net.art' contest for INFOS 2002 in Ljubljana; he co-curates the on-line exhibition space CTHEORY Multimedia with Arthur and Marilouise Kroker. He has written catalogue essays for ZKM (Karlsruhe), The Power Plant (Toronto), Centro de la Imagen (Mexico City), and the Museum of Macau; his books include Drama Trauma (Routledge 1997) and Like a Film (Routledge 1993), and he is completing Digital Intensities (University of Minnesota Press) while editing Digitality and the Memory of Cinema (Temple University Press).

  • Jennifer and Kevin McCoy People

    Jennifer and Kevin McCoy are New York new media artists who use technology to fragment, store, and analyze audio and video; their work includes installations, performances, and net art, and they hold MFA degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. They have exhibited at New York institutions such as P.S.1 and The New Museum and produced commissioned net projects for the Walker Art Center and the Whitney; they have presented internationally including ISEA Manchester. Awards and support include a 2001 Colbert Foundation New Media award, 1999 NYFA grants in computer arts, a Jerome grant, and residencies at Worldviews and Harvestworks; coverage appeared in Spin Magazine, Feed, and The Independent.

  • Paul Davies People

    Paul Davies is an artist with solo and group exhibitions from the mid-1990s through 2005 in New York, Chicago, Seattle and Toronto; solo projects include Small Humans Building Their Destruction (free103point9, New York, Oct 2004) and Opaque, Quantification of Humans and Bandwidth (Chicago, 1999–2000). He studied Engineering Science at the University of Toronto (BASc, 1987–1991) and was affiliated with SOIL (Seattle, Sept 2000–Nov 2002) and the Art and Robotics Group at Interaccess (Toronto, Apr 1997–Jun 1999). He curated exhibitions at Jane Addams Hull House and SOIL, lectured on interfacing interactive sculptures with surplus PCs, and received Canada Council and City of Chicago CAAP grants in 2003.

  • Jennifer Reeder People

    Jennifer Reeder is a movie maker and visual artist who produced the short-video trilogy Steys Like This and the feature Tiny Plastic Rainbow. She is completing The Closer Stockholm, to be written in Stockholm, shot in Chicago and edited at the Wexner Center in Columbus; release is planned for early 2004 with an accompanying web-based project. Her work has screened internationally; she received an MFA in 1996 from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and lives in Chicago where she is Assistant Professor in the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois.
