Joel Chadabe, composer and pioneer with interactive computer music systems, has been active worldwide since 1969 concertizing with Jan Williams, percussionist, and other musicians. His book 'Electric Sound: The Past and Promise of Electronic Music' is the first comprehensive history of electronic music. It has been praised by leaders in the field as "wonderful and compelling" (Robert Moog) and "By far the finest history and overview of the last 50 years of electronic music that I have read" (Max Mathews) with exceptional reviews in Keyboard Magazine, Computer Music Journal, Leonardo Music Journal, and many other publications. As president of Intelligent Music, he was responsible for the publication of innovative software, including M and Max. His articles on electronic music have appeared in numerous journals and magazines and his music has been recorded on many labels, among them Lovely Music, CDCM, and Deep Listening. He has received awards, fellowships, and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Fulbright Commission, SUNY Research Foundation, New York Foundation nd Chairman of Composers' Forum, Inc., in New York City, and President of Intelligent Music, aresearch and development company. Chadabe is currently Professor Emeritus at State University of New York at Albany, Director of the Electronic Music Studio at Bennington College, and founder and President of Electronic Music Foundation. He holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Yale University.
