Joel Chadabe

Joel Chadabe, composer and pioneer with interactive computer music systems, has been active worldwide since 1969 concertizing with Jan Williams, percussionist, and other musicians. His book 'Electric Sound: The Past and Promise of Electronic Music' is the first comprehensive history of electronic music. It has been praised by leaders in the field as "wonderful and compelling" (Robert Moog) and "By far the finest history and overview of the last 50 years of electronic music that I have read" (Max Mathews) with exceptional reviews in Keyboard Magazine, Computer Music Journal, Leonardo Music Journal, and many other publications.

As president of Intelligent Music, he was responsible for the publication of innovative software, including M and Max. His articles on electronic music have appeared in numerous journals and magazines and his music has been recorded on many labels, among them Lovely Music, CDCM, and Deep Listening. He has received awards, fellowships, and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Fulbright Commission, SUNY Research Foundation, New York Foundation and Chairman of Composers' Forum, Inc., in New York City, and President of Intelligent Music, a research and development company.

Chadabe is currently Professor Emeritus at State University of New York at Albany, Director of the Electronic Music Studio at Bennington College, and founder and President of Electronic Music Foundation. He holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Yale University.

    David Weinstein is a composer and multimedia artist whose musical and site-specific installation works have been shown worldwide; his musical practice juxtaposes sound effects, traditional and non traditional instruments, synthetic sound, ancient and exotic tunings, and noise. As a keyboardist he has recorded and performed with Shelley Hirsch, Elliott Sharp, John Zorn, Ned Rothenberg and Rhys Chatham; his theatrical, installation and multimedia pieces have received grants and awards. He participated in a long collaboration with the live video performance group The Poool and works with Doris Vila on animated, multi-user, multi-screen responsive environment installations cited at Prix Ars Electronica 2002.

    Eric Singer is a musician, artist, engineer and programmer and the founder of LEMUR; he holds a BS in Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon, a Diploma in Music Synthesis (Magna Cum Laude) from Berklee College of Music, and an MS in Computer Science from New York University. He has over 20 years of arts and multimedia programming, engineering and performance experience in interactive performance systems, integrated music and graphics systems, alternative controller design, networked multimedia environments, interface design, artificial intelligence and computer controlled pyrotechnics; he has performed and lectured throughout the U.S. and Europe and is known internationally for his interactive software and hardware projects.

    Nicolas Collins, composer and performer of electronic music, is Professor of Sound at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and holds a BA (1976) and MA (1979) from Wesleyan University, CT. He has led Hacking workshops worldwide, worked with John Cage, Alvin Lucier and David Tudor, and is Editor-in-Chief of Leonardo Music Journal. Performances and installations include California Institute of the Arts (Valencia), Walker Arts Center and Whitney Museum of American Art; recordings appear on Lovely Music and Nonesuch; awards include DAAD (Berlin) and Thomas Watson Foundation.

    R. Luke DuBois is a composer, programmer, and video artist based in New York City; he holds a doctorate in music composition from Columbia University and teaches interactive sound and video performance at Columbia's Computer Music Center, New York University, and the School of Visual Arts. He has done interactive programming and music production for many artists, most recently Toni Dove, Chris Mann, Elliott Sharp, and Michael Gordon, and served as a staff programming consultant for Engine27 during the 2003 season. He is co-author of Jitter, a software suite developed by Cycling'74 for real-time manipulation of matrix data; his music with his band the Freight Elevator Quartet is available on Caipirinha/Sire and Cycling'74 music.
