Lloyd Fales

Lloyd Fales has worked as an independent television producer and documentary filmmaker for 16 years. His media work focuses on explorations of science and nature.

For National Geographic, he produced and directed Search for the First Dog, The Crows, Street Dogs, and Tundra Swans: Tireless Voyagers. He has also produced and scripted for PBS, the BBC natural history unit, and the National Audubon Society. In 2006--7, he collaborated with scientists sponsored by the National Science Foundation to tell the story of how Antarctic penguins are responding to rapid climate change, producing two documentaries, Penguin Science (an educational DVD and website), and Return to Penguin City, which will premiere on Animal Planet this year.

He has also been a producer for Martha Stewart and MTV. He is currently producing episodes for a new 13-part series on evolution for the History Channel. He is a 1988 graduate of Ithaca College.

His work has been broadcast on 260 PBS stations and he received seven NEA Independent Production Fund fellowships and a Government of India travel grant.

    David Rokeby, born in Tillsonburg, Ontario in 1960 and educated at Ontario College of Art, is a Toronto new media artist and pioneer who develops interactive technologies using video cameras, computers and synthesizers. Very Nervous System (1986–90) premiered at the Venice Biennale in 1996, won the first Petro-Canada Award for Media Arts (1988) and is installed in museums worldwide. Watched and Measured (2000) won BAFTA; he received Prix Ars Electronica (1991, 1997), published two papers and received a Governor General's Award.

    Cynthia Chris is Assistant Professor of Television Studies at the College of Staten Island/City University of New York; she previously held a Mellon post‑doctoral position in Television Studies at Washington University in Saint Louis. She is completing Watching Wildlife, a book on nonfiction images of nature and animals to be published by the University of Minnesota Press in 2006, and is co‑editor of Cable Visions (under contract, New York University Press). She has published peer‑reviewed articles in Television and New Media (2002) and The Communication Review (forthcoming 2005) and has presented at international conferences.

    Ben Vida is a musician who has written, recorded and released records for over ten years with bands Town and Country, Singer and DRMWPN and as solo Bird Show; he has released records on Thrill Jockey, Drag City and Kranky and toured the United States, Europe and Japan. In 2008 he released Untitled, the third Bird Show album, featuring Greg Davis, Robert AA Lowe, Michael Zerang and Adam Vida; upcoming projects include solo analog synthesizer works and a first Bird Show Band release featuring Josh Abrams, Jim Baker, Dan Bitney and John Herndon; he lives in Brooklyn, NY with his wife Katy.
