Paul Miller DJ Spooky

Paul D. Miller is a New York based musician, conceptual artist, and writer best known under his "constructed persona" as "Dj Spooky that Subliminal Kid". He was the first editor at large of "Artbyte: The Magazine of Digital Arts", and his articles have appeared in The Village Voice, Artforum, Rap Pages, Paper Magazine, The Source, and many other magazines and journals.

His art work is based on and employs a wide variety of digitally created music and multi-media to create a form of post-modern sculpture in the tradition of composers such as John Cage and Afrika Bambaata. He has collaborated with a wide variety of pre-eminent musicians and composers such as Iannis Xenakis, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Butch Morris, Kool Keith a.k.a. Doctor Octagon, Killa Priest of Wu-Tang Clan, Yoko Ono and Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth amongst many others.

Miller's artistic work has appeared in the Whitney Biennial, the Venice Biennial for Architecture (year 2000), the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Germany, Kunsthalle, Vienna, The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. His most recent projects include the "Unfinished Stories", a three way collaborative effort between the Pulitzer Prize winning NY Times Critic, Margo Jefferson, and Francesca Harper, a dancer and choreographer with Bill Forsythe's Frankfurt Ballet company, as well as several books and novels that will be published in 2003. www.djspooky.com.

    Alan Sondheim (born Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania) is a new-media artist, writer and theorist based in Brooklyn with B.A. and M.A. degrees in English from Brown University.     Ed Tomney is a composer and visual artist who produced early synthesist projects including The Last Gasp Ensemble and the electronic trio ENVLP; he later developed larger works such as The Mechanical Guitar Orchestra, a robotic ensemble of automated electric guitar sculptures for installation and performance. He composed a series of radio works in Europe (Kunstradio-Radiokunst; Bilder Im Kopf — ORF) and exhibited sound installations in public passage spaces including stairwells, elevators, subway stations and hallways. His solo series Ecotype Transmissions combines reanimated spatial events with live mechanical elements such as motorized transducer fields; he is a member of the analog synthesis collective Analogos, which performs regularly at Diapason Gallery.

    Nicolas Collins, composer and performer of electronic music, is Professor of Sound at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and holds a BA (1976) and MA (1979) from Wesleyan University, CT. He has led Hacking workshops worldwide, worked with John Cage, Alvin Lucier and David Tudor, and is Editor-in-Chief of Leonardo Music Journal.
