    Proposal from an author at the TV Center to outfit a vehicle with early videotape playback equipment to retrieve reel-to-reel tapes produced from the late 1960s to about 1975; formats cited include several 1/2", 1/4" and possibly 1" tape, with 2" tape handled by commercial services. The plan calls for traveling to owners, sending a tape-cleaning machine ahead, using equipment including Frame Synchronizers, ProcAmps, Magic, Candles and Prayer Rugs, and transferring material to a current videotape format chosen by the owner; transfers would be one-time and tapemakers are expected to participate. The proposer offers to research costs and scope and requests contact by mail at the TV Center.

    Ralph Hocking outlines his move from pottery and sculpture to photography, video and computer-based image work; he acquired a Paik/Abe synthesizer in 1972 and, with Sherleen Miller, produced multi-camera pieces (1971–1978) using mixing, reversal, rate switching and voltage control. With David Jones he developed a twenty-six-command program to manipulate frames and produce 256×256 black-and-white dot-matrix prints. He taught video art at SUNY Binghamton for thirteen years and founded and directed the Experimental Television Center Ltd. in Owego; entry appears in the Generic Real-time Interactive Digital catalog, Arnot Art Museum, July 12–September 28, 1986, curated by Peter Chamberlain.

    Ralph Hocking offers an artist statement for a computer-based installation slated for fall 1999; his listed installation works are Jump, diggit and Running, and he links the project to prior study in pottery. The work uses four to nine monitors, each driven by its own Amiga with one video and two audio outputs and a serial link to a master referee computer; the Amiga provides four oscillators and image and sound sampling, and imagery is altered by digital processing techniques including convolving, bit swapping and field manipulation, producing three-dimensional illusions. The project is part of Motion: The 58th Exhibition of Central New York Artists at the Munson Williams Proctor Institute, October 2, 1999 to January 2, 2000, curated by John Knecht.
