  • Stan Vanderbeek People

    Stan VanDerBeek (1927–1984) studied at Cooper Union and Black Mountain College; his awards included grants from the Rockefeller, Guggenheim and Ford foundations, the National Endowment for the Arts and an American Film Institute Independent Filmmaker Award. He began making films in 1955 and in the 1960s produced theatrical and multimedia pieces and computer animation often in collaboration with Bell Telephone Laboratories. In the 1970s he constructed a Movie Drome in Stony Point, New York and pursued multimedia experiments including early computer graphics; a documentary Vanderbeek Revisited by Steven Hutchings is linked at http://v2v.cc/node/109.
