• Matt Schlanger Chronology

  Matt Schlanger recorded Blue Mercury at the ETC in July 1986 after moving back to New York in the summer of 1985; he had spent the previous year in Owego building hardware for the Center and developing his own synths. He taught at the Center for Media Arts, parked his system in a Soho loft above Arnolds Turtle and later with Hank Linhart on North 13th in Greenpoint, where he collaborated with Hank, Terry Mohre and Laurie Needell and edited Before the Flood on a straight-cut system. Blue Mercury was first shown as a three-minute edit, later expanded to a 15-minute installation developed with Charlie Citron and screened at Monte Video in Amsterdam and in 1991 at the Thread Waxing space.

• William Blue People

  William Blue is a moviemaker, performance artist, actor and musician born and raised in Seattle, Washington, now based in New York City; he founded Ready Light Productions in 1996 to produce his work and other progressive artists' projects. In 2000 he made three films—Versus, Half-Life and I Ignore Beautiful People on Purpose—which were scheduled to appear before audiences worldwide in 2001; he formed the rock/electronic band M.O.S. in 1999 and performs as its singer and guitar player. He is currently working on a video installation, other short video art projects and a multi-media performance piece entitled The Myna Session; website: http://www.readylight.com

• Stephen Partridge People

  Stephen Partridge is a media artist and producer who exhibited in 1970s shows including the Serpentine (Video Show, 1975), the Tate gallery (Installation Show, 1976), the Paris Biennale (1977) and The Kitchen, New York (1979). He worked with composer David Cunningham from 1974; Channel 4 commissioned Dialogue for Two Players (1984); with Jane Rigby he formed Fields and Frames and produced Television Interventions (Channel 4, 1990), featuring nineteen artist works including his The Sounds of These Words, and he co-produced Not Necessarily for BBC2 with BBC Scotland (1991). He has curated Video Art 78 and touring tape packages and is Professor of Media Art and Head of School at the School of Television and Imaging, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, University of Dundee, where he established the Television Workshop.
