SVID also spawned several splinter groups over the years such as Danger Video and d-Con, both of which continued to expand the notion of 'flexible video'
further into the worlds of experimental video, media rich performance & installation. In 1986, SVID produced a 'Video LP' titled SubVersions, which lead to perhaps the collective's widest exposure including awards, screenings at the Centre Pompedieu in Paris and satellite broadcasts via the Deep Dish TV  roject.

Several of the SVID members participated in the Residency Program at the Experimental Television Center.

  • Video Freex: Summary of Activities and Videotapes (1997) Groups

    Video Freex was a collective active from 1969 that produced community television and video resources; members included Skip Blumberg and Nancy Cain. They worked in New York City and with the Rochester Museum and Science Center in 1970 with NYSCA support, and from 1971–79 operated a low-power community TV station in Lanesville broadcasting Lanesville TV. Media Bus ran workshops and exhibitions, maintained over 300 tapes, published technical material including Spaghetti City Video Manual and Dumpling Ground vol.2, provided access to two portable color cameras supported by NYSCA, and in 1979 members moved to Woodstock to run a post-production facility; contact Video Data Bank.

    Introduction traces community video to the late sixties and notes the author's almost eight years of involvement in New York City and Woodstock; interviews were recorded in the Woodstock area. The record contains three interviews: Val Cadden, Woodstock Town Supervisor, describes the town-designated cable channel opened in May, 1972, access by town board permission, WCV programming and its suspension last fall for lack of local funding and a roughly $1,700 franchise fee; Judi Mills, a recent Vassar graduate, discusses 1/2-inch videotape practice and networking videotaped social-service information to Mid-Hudson cable systems; Jon Berg, a Woodstock sculptor, reports minimal viewer response and limited community participation.

  • National Center for Experiments in Television at KQED-TV: Description by Steve Seid and Maria Troy (2000) Groups

    Steve Seid (Video Curator, Pacific Film Archive) and Maria Troy (Associate Curator, Wexner Center) wrote on June 17, 2000 about planned Pacific Film Archive exhibitions of NCET videoworks centered on The Videola (1973). They trace NCET from its 1967 founding at KQED as the Experimental TV Project with NEA and Rockefeller funding to its 1969 renaming and CPB support; Brice Howard is cited as director. They mention Graham Tape Delay and Beck's Direct Video Synthesizer, and note that the Pacific Film Archive will assemble compilations, publish a small catalogue by fall 2000.

    Founded by Carl Geiger in 1970 to explore the computer-controlled video imaging system developed by Carl Geiger and Gerard Fountain; access to this system was provided to a limited number of artists each year, with a small stipend and post-production work arranged through the Synapse Video Center at Syracuse University. The activity is cited in Access Film and Video Equipment: A Directory, Nancy Legge, 1978; Carl Geiger displayed custom designed tools and systems at the conference Video History: Making Connections, 1998, at Syracuse University.
