Antonio Muntadas

Muntadas was born in Barcelona in 1942 and has resided in the United States since 1972. From 1977 to 1984 he was a research fellow at the MIT Center for Advanced Visual Studies where he also taught. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. His work in installation, photography, and video has been shown internationally. He completed the installation "Stadium" in 1990.

    Antoni Muntadas (born Barcelona, 1942) has lived and worked in New York since 1971; his practice examines social, political and communications issues and the relationship between public and private space through photography, video, publications, internet and installations. He studied in Barcelona and at the Pratt Graphic Center in New York and has taught seminars at institutions including UC San Diego and CAVS at MIT. His work has been exhibited internationally since 1997 and has received awards including a NYFA grant and Third Prize at Life 7.0; he teaches New Media Art at the School of Visual Arts and Eyebeam Atelier.

    Jaime Davidovich studied at the School of Visual Arts, New York (1963), the University of Uruguay (1959–1961) and the National College, Buenos Aires (1954–1958); his solo exhibitions included Diane Brown Gallery (1987) and Exit Art (1991, Forces), and The Live Show was presented on Manhattan Cable TV (1982) and retrospectively at the American Museum of the moving Image (1989–90), with a group showing at the Whitney Museum of American Art (1976). His awards include NEA Visual Arts Fellowships (1990-84 and 1978), CAPS grants (1982 and 1975) and NYSCA grants (1982 and 1975); his work is held by the Dayton Art Institute, Museum of Modern Art Buenos Aires, the Everson Museum of Art, the H. Abrams Collection and the Akron Art Institute.

  • Juan Downey People

    Juan Downey (1940–1993) was a Chilean-born pioneer video artist who studied architecture at the Catholic University of Chile, attended S.W. Hayter's Atelier 17 in Paris, and immigrated to New York in 1965. He produced videotapes, installations, drawings, paintings and performances exploring political discourse, art history and identity; his work was exhibited at institutions including the Whitney, MoMA, Documenta 6 and the Venice Biennale. In 1998 Institut Valencia d'Art Modern mounted a major retrospective; he received support from the Rockefeller and Guggenheim foundations and his work was broadcast on WNET, WGBH and KQED and is available through Electronic Arts Intermix.

  • Alfeu Franca People

    Alfeu França, born in Rio de Janeiro in 1963, studied Fine Arts at P.U.C. and E.A.V. in Rio and attended workshops at UCLA and in London. He interned at Continental CableVision (Los Angeles), joined Rede Globo's animation team and maintained a studio in Rio while working across experimental, feature and industrial film. In 1998 he founded Imagenax to produce independent documentaries that screened at It's All True and Margaret Mead; he received a 2001 Film Arts Foundation grant for Ota Benga and now lives in New York, consulting as an archival image researcher.
