Carola Dreidemie

My Latin American roots and my personal search for self-definition drives me to scrutinize difference theoretically and literally. In All Eyez on U.S., my camera becomes an impertinent observer that acts as the 'other' through which the subject's identity is re-defined and re-contextualized. For this project, the camera is placed directly in front of the subject and sometimes intrusively close to their body.

The resulting images resemble a police line up and an anthropological study. This refers to society's feelings of xenophobia and racism that commonly fuse otherness with criminality. https://www.caroladreidemie.com/

    Margarita De la Vega-Hurtado is Executive Director of International Film Seminars, organizers of the Flaherty Film Seminar; she holds a Doctorate in American Culture with a focus on Film Studies from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she was an Adjunct Professor. She has taught at the University of California in Santa Cruz (Merrill College) and has programmed, curated, and presented film programs in Latin American and Latino cinema, independent American cinema, and documentary cinema; she has published papers on those subjects as well as on Colombian cinema, Louis Malle, and Luis Bunuel.

    Ricardo Miranda Z?Òiga is an artist who treats art as a social practice aimed at establishing dialogue in public spaces; he was born to immigrant parents and grew up between Nicaragua and San Francisco. His work addresses immigration, discrimination, gentrification and the effects of globalization, using populist metaphors alongside critical perspectives.     Dara Greenwald is an interdisciplinary artist with an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BA from Oberlin College; she taught part-time at SAIC Film/Video/New Media (2003–2005), was Distribution Manager at the Video Data Bank (1998–2005) and pursued an MFA at RPI in 2007. Her practice is experimental and socially engaged, influenced by punk DIY and anarchist mutual-aid values; she co-founded the tactical media group Pink Bloque. Her single-channel videos have screened internationally and her writing appeared in outlets including Clamor and the Journal of Aesthetics & Protest.

    Marisa Olson studied at Goldsmiths College, UC Santa Cruz (History of Consciousness) and UC Berkeley (Rhetoric and Film Studies); her work has been presented by museums and underground film festivals including the Whitney Museum and the New York and Chicago Underground Film Festivals. She held residencies and fellowships at Goldsmiths, the New School, Northwestern, Technical University–Dresden, the Experimental Television Center and the Banff Centre and is Editor and Curator at Large for Rhizome.org.   • Barbara Rosenthal People

    Barbara Rosenthal (born 17 August 1948) is a New York–based conceptual polyartist who has produced photographs, videos, super/8 films, objects, games, performances, book-art and interactive novelties; her work was shown at The Jewish Museum (Time and Memory: Video Art and Identity, 1988) and the Center For Photography in Woodstock (Time, Memory, and the Limits of Photography, 1995), and is held by The Whitney Museum and MoMA. She studied at the Brooklyn Museum Art School, Art Students' League (1964–66), earned a B.F.A. from Carnegie-Mellon (1970) and an M.F.A. from Queens College/CUNY (1973), and has taught at numerous institutions including Tisch School of the Arts/NYU and CUNY/College of Staten Island (teaching Writing since 1992); published books include Clues to Myself (1981), Sensations (1984), Homo Futurus (1996) and Soul & Psyche (1999).
