Francis Hwang

Francis Hwang is an artist, writer, and software engineer. His earlier artwork includes "The Unauthorized iPod U2 vs. Negativland Special Edition", in which he combined a U2 iPod Special Edition with Negativland's back catalog and auctioned the result online; and "firmament.to", which uses the Google Web API to turn any HTML page into a free-associated index for the rest of the web. His writing on technology and culture has appeared in Spin, Wired, ArtByte, and FEED Magazine.

An active member of the Ruby community, he has spoken at the International Ruby Conference and currently serves as a technical lead on free software projects such as Ruby-DBI and the object-relational mapping library Lafcadio. He lives in Brooklyn with one roommate, two computers, and two cats. https://fhwang.net

    Michael Mandiberg is an artist, web practitioner and rogue economist who uses the Internet, video and performance to explore subjectivity, labor and commerce; his current work employs Firefox plug-ins and open API platforms to highlight the real environmental costs of a global economy. He lives and rides a bicycle in Brooklyn and teaches in the Dept of Media Culture at CSI/CUNY, where he is currently teaching a Web Design class focusing on Participatory Culture.   • Maciej Wisniewski People

    Maciej Wisniewski is an artist and programmer who examines the social implications of technology and the Internet; he earned an M.F.A. at Hunter College, New York, and completed post-graduate studies at the Institute for General Linguistics and Computational Linguistics, University of Stockholm (SWE). He launched ´netomatª as a network-based art project in summer 1999; the project offered an open, free form alternative to page-based HTML browsers and search engines, and in 2000 he co-founded a software company based on ´netomatª. Prior to that he worked as an Advanced Programmer at ibm.com, developing ibm.com's XML strategy and advanced Web prototype applications.
