Kathy High is a media artist, curator, writer and teacher. High is an Associate Professor teaching video and media arts in the iEAR/Department of Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy, NY and has recently taught at Princeton University, NJ, and Cooper Union, NYC. Her video works have been exhibited both nationally and abroad, and she has received numerous awards for her video works including grants from The Rockefeller Foundation, the Jerome Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her work experiments with combinations of documentary and narrative and investigates the implications of science technologies and female identities among other things. Her recent work, Aminal Attraction concerns her exploration of interspecies telepathic communication leading to discoveries about the complex relationship between people and animals. She is currently working on a musical about human genomic technologies, called The 23 Songs of the Chromosomes. Screenings include the New York Lesbian and Gay Experimental Film-Video Festival (NY), Virginia Film Festival Reel NY, and the Dallas Film Festival; it is distributed by Video Data Bank. High is also the founder and editor of the critical journal FELIX, A Journal of Media Arts and ommunication, since 1990, which encourages dialogue among alternative media makers. She has also served as curator for REEL New York, an independent film/video series on WNET/Channel 13, New York. High received her MA in Fine Arts and English Literature from Colgate University, and an M.A. in Humanities from the Center for Media Studies, State University of New York, Buffalo.
