Lindsay Woodruff

BFA, Alfred University. Lindsay Sampson is an artist, art educator, and small business owner who currently lives and works in Pennsylvania. In the past few years her art, curatorial, educational, and advocacy endeavors have been presented throughout The Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania; Buffalo, NY; Burlington, VT; Chicago, IL; Miami, FL; Pittsburgh, PA; and Stroudsburg, PA.

Sampson has served as a board member at Squeaky Wheel Media Resource Center and as member/co-owner/membership coordinator at the Nickel City Co-op -- both in Buffalo, NY. Her artwork has had the privilege of traveling the world with The Evolutionary Girls Club. She has worked to develop and carry out art programs for talented individuals with developmental disabilities, specifically children with Autism.

She enjoys and believes in the power of collaboration, and has had the opportunity to work with a great variety of diverse artists. She recently became a member of the National Art Education Association because she believes in the importance of advocating for the arts and arts education in and beyond her local community. www.onthewingjewelry.com.

She received a Gottleib Foundation Artist Grant (2003) and support from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (2003).

  • Monica Duncan People

    Monica Duncan is an interdisciplinary print, video and performance artist and educator born and raised in Webster, New York; she received a BFA from Alfred University and served as assistant to the Director of the International Student Residency, a program of Alfred University and the Experimental Television Center. Exhibitions of the Evolutionary Girls Club were shown throughout Germany, Sweden and Finland and at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Cornell University, Massachusetts College of Art and Rhode Island School of Design; she collaborated with Lara Odell on Antibodies, a video/performance project exploring color theory in a social context. In collaboration with Annie Langan she co-founded a Print/Video Residency program in Louisville, Kentucky; website listed at http://www.artselectronic.com.

  • Penelope Umbrico People

    Penelope Umbrico is an artist living and working in New York City; she holds a BFA from the Ontario College of Art, Canada, and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York. She has exhibited widely and is represented in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum and the International Center of Photography. She teaches in graduate and undergraduate photography programs at the School of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Design, Rhode Island School of Design and Bard College; her awards include a New York Foundation of the Arts Catalogue Grant and a New York Foundation of the Arts Artists' Fellowship.

  • laura Kissel People

    Laura Kissel is a media artist working in film and the electronic and digital arts; she is cofounder of the Orphan Film Symposium and an associate professor of media arts at the University of South Carolina. Her documentary work explores social and political issues around landscape and land use, representation of place and history, and orphan films; she is in preproduction on a documentary about media representations of disability, eugenics, and the struggle for disability civil rights; she graduated in 1991 from Ithaca College's Department of Cinema and Photography.

  • Melinda Barlow People

    Melinda Barlow is Associate Professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder; she joined CU in 1996 after teaching at New York University, the School of Visual Arts, and Queens College, City University of New York. She edited Mary Lucier: Art and Performance (2000, Johns Hopkins University Press) and is a film and video historian specializing in contemporary independent women film and videomakers; her articles have appeared in journals including Camera Obscura and Art Journal. She received the Lyn Blumenthal Memorial Award and a CU Center for the Humanities and the Arts Fellowship in 2005; she founded the Leah Kelly Memorial Award and has a forthcoming book, Lost Objects of Desire (University of Minnesota Press).
