Margot Lovejoy

Margot Lovejoy is Professor of Visual Arts at the State University of New York at Purchase and author of "Postmodern Currents: Art and Artists in the Age of Electronic Media" (1997).

She is recipient of a 1988 Guggenheim Fellowship and a 1994 Arts International Grant in India.

Exhibited internationally, she has had many solo exhibitions in and around New York including those at the Alternative Museum; P.S.#1 Contemporary Art Center; Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art; Queens Museum of Art; Neuberger Museum of Art; Stamford Museum and the Islip Museum. Her work is in the collection of, among others, the Museum of Modern Art; the Getty Institute; the Neuberger Museum.

Her website Parthenia has been archived by the Walker Art Center as part of the pioneering adaweb.com site.

Her website TURNS was featured in the 2002 Whitney Biennial. A multi-user installation aspect of the TURNS site is part of the Queens International exhibition at the Queens Museum Aug. 11 - Nov. 3, 2002.

Apart from authoring numerous essays in various journals and catalogs, she has also been an invited speaker at conferences on art and technology internationally.

She has published several visual books: "Labyrinth" in 1991 and in 1995 "The Book of Plagues", "paradoxic mutations" and "manifestations".

Summary

    Barbara Rosenthal (born 17 August 1948) is a New York–based conceptual polyartist who has produced photographs, videos, super/8 films, objects, games, performances, book-art and interactive novelties; her work was shown at The Jewish Museum (Time and Memory: Video Art and Identity, 1988) and the Center For Photography in Woodstock (Time, Memory, and the Limits of Photography, 1995), and is held by The Whitney Museum and MoMA. She studied at the Brooklyn Museum Art School, Art Students' League (1964–66), earned a B.F.A. from Carnegie-Mellon (1970) and an M.F.A. from Queens College/CUNY (1973), and has taught at numerous institutions including Tisch School of the Arts/NYU and CUNY/College of Staten Island (teaching Writing since 1992); published books include Clues to Myself (1981), Sensations (1984), Homo Futurus (1996) and Soul & Psyche (1999).

She has held residencies at Polar Circuit (Finland) and Discovery at Banff Center for the Arts (Canada); her award-winning web works have been included in Beyond Interface, Arco Electronico, Perspecta, Transmediale, File, Art Entertainment Network, The Montreal Biennale, European Media Art Festival and ISEA.

    Prema Murthy examines the shifting boundaries of a gendered and socially constructed body by remapping its surface through new technologies; she explores gender embodiment through performance, net-based installation, digital prints and sound.
