Michael Scroggins

Michael Scroggins has been working in real-time videographic animation since 1970 and non-real-time 3D computer animation since 1983. He has been active in the real-time interactive computer animation field of immersive Virtual Reality (VR) since 1992, when he received a grant from the Banff Centre for the Arts to produce a work as part of the Art and Virtual Environments Project. His VR installation, Topological Slide, premiered at The Fourth International Conference on Cyberspace held in 1993.

He received an MFA degree from CalArts where he has been a member of the faculty since 1978. He studied video under Nam June Paik and Shuya Abe with whom he worked on the construction of the historic Paik/Abe Video Synthesizer. http://emsh.calarts.edu/~aka/ http://emsh.calarts.edu/~aka/topological_slide/Introduction.html. Michael Scroggins is a videographic and computer animator who has worked in real-time videographic animation since 1970 and in non-real-time 3D computer animation since 1983; he became active in immersive VR in 1992 after receiving a Banff Centre for the Arts grant and premiered the VR installation Topological Slide at the Fourth International Conference on Cyberspace in 1993. He is a frequent collaborator at Share (http://share.dj) and has participated in events such as Anyware, Share Montreal, Eyewash, Rake and Share @ The Kitchen, and has led several workshops in new media programming environments.

    Daniel Sandin is an artist, inventor and educator who directs the Electronic Visualization Laboratory and teaches in the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois at Chicago; he has exhibited worldwide and received support from the Rockefeller, Guggenheim, NSF and NEA. He developed the Glow Flow environment at the Smithsonian in 1969, built the Sandin Image Processor in 1973 and, with Tom DeFanti and students, conceived the CAVE virtual reality theater in 1991. His work is distributed by Electronic Arts Intermix and Video Data Bank and has appeared at Ars Electronica and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; honors include Guggenheim (1979), NEA (1980) and University of Illinois Inventor of the Year (2000).

  • Michael Schell People

    Michael Schell (born September 17, 1961, Waco, Texas) studied at USC (1979–83) and earned a Master's degree in music and video at the University of Iowa in 1985; he produced biomusic and computer-generated works at Stanford CCRMA in 1983 and moved to New York City in 1985. He co-founded the electronic arts ensemble 77 Hz in 1991 and created experimental videotapes and intermedia works including Without Electrodes (1983), Changing (1982), Mea Culpa (1989), Higher Laws (1990) and Lingering-Epiphany (1990). Schell collaborated with numerous musicians and film/video artists, held residencies at major media centers, received awards from BMI and the Concorso Internazionale Luigi Russolo, and obtained support from Meet the Composer, the American Composers Forum and the Experimental Television Center; website http://www.schellsburg.com.
