Abstract

Nathan Lyons on the Snapshot. Winter 1992-1993. Cover: Over Here by Mona Jimenez: Computer ink jet print, color, 1992, 33 1/2" X 15 1/2," Text reads, "When I told you the most dangerous thing I'd be doing is standing up in a bathtub I was wrong- I haven't even seen a bathtub over here." Inside front cover: lists of Staff, Board of Directors, and Advisory Board, Gallery Hours, and brief synopses of CEPA and its Artists-In-Residence program. Turning the page, Exhibitions are layed out after an aqua flier for CEPA's Spring 1993 Schedule. Inside back cover: a Membership form, Digital Arts at CEPA, Point and Shoot II, Resident Artists at the 1993 World University Games Cultural Festival, Color and Contemporary Photographic Practices, and The Metro Bus Show/ Montage 93: A Call for Proposals.

    Pamela Susan Hawkins, 1997; description of the Center for Exploratory and Perceptual Art (CEPA), founded in 1974, as a research and education center for photo-related art and new photographic technologies, with exhibitions, lectures, a video/computer imaging facility, film programming, residencies and grants.     ETC 1993–95 documents artists in residence, screenings, exhibitions, institutional affiliations and funding. In 1993–94 artists in residence included Alan Berliner, Sandi DuBowski, Sara Hornbacher, Robert Natowitz, Tatiana Louriero, Andrea Mancuso and Peter D'Auria; works were screened at Film/Video Arts, Iterations: The New Image at the International Center of Photography, the Venice Biennale, the Osnabruck Media Art Festival and Montage 93 in Rochester; the Center joined the Preservation Working Group of Media Alliance and the AFI National Moving Image Database project. In 1994–95 artists in residence included Veena Cabreros-Sud, Lisa DiLillo, Genevieve Hayes and Barbara Hammer; exhibitions, Finishing Funds recipients and state and foundation support are recorded.
