Nicholas Economos

Nicholas Economos is an artist and educator living in rural Western New York. His art practice includes work in interactive media, sound, video, animation and prints. He is a Site Editor for Rhizome.org at The New Museum of Contemporary Art in NYC, editing content for the web site and the Rhizome Rare email list.

His awards include an Individual Artist Project Grant in Film, Media, and New Technology Production, from the New York State Council on the Arts. He has recently exhibited at Art Interactive in Cambridge, MA, Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center in Buffalo, NY, Art in General in New York City, Fylkingen in Stockholm, Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, SESI Gallery in Sao Paulo City, Window Project Space in Auckland, New Zealand, Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, Chiangmai New Media Art Festival in Thailand, DigiFest DXNet in Toronto, and the Cyberarts Festival in Boston. He has been a frequent artist-in-residence at the Experimental Television Center in Owego, New York and is a visiting professor with the Department of Expanded Media at the School of Art and Design at Alfred University. www.wallcloud.com.

    John Phillips is an intermedia artist whose selected performances and installations (1986–2005) include video projections, multimedia and sound/light environments; he frequently collaborated with sculptor Carolyn Healy and held residencies at the Experimental Television Center (Owego, NY) and the Millay Colony (Austerlitz, NY). His work was exhibited at institutions and events including the Institute of Contemporary Art (Philadelphia), International Computer Music Conference (Beijing, Ann Arbor), Cini Foundation (Venice) and Eastern State Penitentiary; he received multiple Pennsylvania Council on the Arts awards and a 1995 NEA Fellowship in Sound Art. He has taught as Adjunct Professor of Digital Media at the University of the Arts and in Communications at Arcadia University.

  • Lauren Cornell People

    Lauren Cornell is Executive Director of Rhizome and oversees the organization's programs to promote and contextualize new media art. She started with Rhizome in May 2005. Previously she worked as a curator, writer and arts administrator in New York, including on the Andy Warhol Film Project at the Whitney Museum and as Executive Director of Ocularis from 2002–2004; she also worked as a youth media educator and organizer, has been published in international and online art outlets, and has curated screenings, exhibitions and performances at venues in New York, London and Warsaw.

    Nicolas Collins, composer and performer of electronic music, is Professor of Sound at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and holds a BA (1976) and MA (1979) from Wesleyan University, CT. He has led Hacking workshops worldwide, worked with John Cage, Alvin Lucier and David Tudor, and is Editor-in-Chief of Leonardo Music Journal. Performances and installations include California Institute of the Arts (Valencia), Walker Arts Center and Whitney Museum of American Art; recordings appear on Lovely Music and Nonesuch; awards include DAAD (Berlin) and Thomas Watson Foundation.

    Will Pappenheimer is an artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY; since 2004 he has been Assistant Professor of Digital Media at Pace University, New York, NY.     Peter d'Agostino is an artist working in video and new media for three decades; his projects have been presented internationally as installations, performances, telecommunications events and broadcast productions. Recent surveys include Interactivity and Intervention, 1978-99 at the Lehman College Art Gallery, New York, and Between Earth & Sky, 1973/2003 at the University of Paris I Partheon-Sorbonne; major group exhibitions include the Whitney Biennial, the Sao Paulo Bienal and the Kwangju Biennial. His work is held by The Museum of Modern Art and distributed by Electronic Arts Intermix; he is a Fulbright Scholar, has received grants from NEA, Japan Foundation, Pew Trusts and others, has held multiple residencies, directs Temple Universitys NewTechLab, and has produced interactive projects and publications on new media.
