Pia Cseri-Briones

Pia Cseri-Briones is a film artist of Hungarian-Spanish descent. She received a B.A. in English from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and an M.F.A. in Cinema Production from Southern Illinois University. Since 1987 she has produced a variety of alternative films that explore documentary subjects within an experimental aesthetic and technique.

Her work integrates direct manipulation of the celluloid (via hand-colouring, hand-processing and optical printing) and a multi-lingual, non-linear structural framework dependent upon history, memory, and nostalgia. Ms. Cseri-Briones' films have been shown extensively in festivals and exhibitions in North America and in Europe. In 1992 she was a featured filmmaker at the Women's Film Festival of Spain and in 1997 won best film at the Madrid Experimental Cinema Week.

Recent awards include an Individual Artists film production grant from the New York State Council on the Arts and an Artists Fellowship from the Art Matters Foundation. Having lived in Canada, Spain, and Holland, Pia Cseri-Briones currently resides in Rochester, NY, ´the world's image centreªÆ as a film artist, educator and curator. In addition to operating Nécora Cine_Arte, she is the Language Learning Specialist at the Multimedia Center, University of Rochester. Formerly, she was the Media Center Coordinator at Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester and an adjunct faculty member at Rochester Institute of Technology's Film/Video/Animation Department.   • Barbara Lattanzi People

    Barbara Lattanzi is an artist whose practice involves constructing and applying "cinema software"; she has written and applied digital code for projects including motion-picture riffing and improvisation (Unwriting), remediation of particular "structuralist" films of the 1970s (HF Critical Mass), reexamination of the sing-along as ideology critique (C-SPAN Karaoke), and perceptual experimentation with extended-duration moving-image structures (Optical De-dramatization Engine).   • Valerie Pavia People

    Valerie Pavia trained in Performance Art at Bordeaux (1992) and holds a Masters in Law from Montpellier (1991); her work was selected at international film festivals including Cannes (2000, En Avant). She received multiple awards, including First Prize at Vidéoformes Clermont-Ferrand (2000) and Split Film Festival, Croatia (1999), the Jury Award at the Biennale de l'Image en Mouvement, Geneva (2003) and awards at Gentilly, Retina (Hungary) and Novossibirsk (all 2003). In 2001 she received a grant from Afaa and Mairie of Paris to make the film Le Rêve de l'Ours (Dream of the Bear) in Moscow; her work is also associated with the International Media Art Festival, Berlin (2006).

    Marie Losier (born France, 1972) is a New York–based filmmaker and curator who has produced numerous 16mm and video portraits of avant-garde artists and musicians including Mike and George Kuchar, Guy Maddin, Richard Foreman, Tony Conrad and Genesis P-Orridge; her films have screened at institutions and festivals such as Tate Modern, MoMA, the Whitney Biennial (2006) and the Berlin and Rotterdam film festivals. She has curated film programs at the French Institute Alliance Fran3aise since 2000 and has developed a feature on Genesis Breyer P-Orridge presented at Centre Pompidou and Cin9math8que Fran7aise in 2009.

    Sandra Gibson and Luis Recoder have shown collaborative film installations and performances since 2001; they have presented work at film festivals, museums, galleries and alternative venues.   • Sandra Gibson People

    Sandra Gibson is an award-winning independent filmmaker whose animated films have been shown in museums and galleries such as Anthology Film Archives and Northwest Film Center; her work has screened at festivals including the Rotterdam International Film Festival, Independent Exposure, the Empire State Film Festival and the Ann Arbor Film Festival and has won awards at the Black Maria Film Festival, the New England Film and Video Festival and the South Beach Animation Festival. Her practice combines abstraction and false narratives using hand-made elements, found footage and computer-generated elements; she holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and has studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
