Sarah Drury

Sarah Drury, MA, MPS is an Assistant Professor in New Media at Temple University's Film & Media Arts Program. Drury is a Video and New Media Artist working with Interactive Video Song and lyrical narrative in a variety of forms from installation/performance to linear video to artist's book. She received her MPS at the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University and her MA in Photography at the International Center of Photography in New York City.

She has taught New Media at New York University and worked professionally on web and CD-rom projects as a multimedia designer and producer. Drury has led experimental workshops in Online Distance Performance using Internet2, exploring themes of presence and absence in networked video. She has received numerous grants including an Artists Fellowship Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and residencies at the Banff Center for the Arts and the Experimental Television Center in Owego, NY.

Her work has been exhibited at such venues as the Brooklyn Museum, the Kitchen, the Galerie Arts et Empreintes in Paris, and the Pulse Art Gallery in New York City. www.sarahdrury.net.

    Video History: Making Connections examined three decades of independent video since the late 1960s and opened with Video Rewind, organized by Deirdre Boyle; panels included Paul Ryan, Barbara London (MOMA video curator) and Parry Teasdale, with screenings such as Proto Media Primer (1970) and Calligrams (1970). A concurrent Video Preservation meeting, involving Mona Jimenez and referencing MOMA’s 1991 preservation meeting, addressed cataloging, funding and technical support; David Ross delivered a keynote at Henriks Chapel on Net Art and video’s institutional absorption. Pamela Hawkins organized a Resource Room displaying early analog and digital recording and playback equipment, processors and period publications, and panels treated writing and teaching video history.

    L. Halsey Brown is an NYC-based artist working in the digital realm; her site-responsive and video works have been shown at alternative venues, galleries and museums internationally. One ongoing project, Places We Are, is a series of site-specific video projects in everyday spaces that use video to explore the psychological implications of social spaces such as bars and tour buses. She is also a video curator; her most recent project, media(tion); fragmentation and acceleration, will be on view at The Center of Photography at Woodstock in November, 2000, and she has taught at Film/Video Arts and received an MFA from California Institute of the Arts.

    Liz Rodda is a multimedia artist working primarily in single channel and installation-based film and video; her work unites politics and self, image and text, history and performance and gives voice to personal experience to contribute to a larger knowledge of the cultural climate. Her large-scale projections and installations envelop viewers in image and sound and are distinguished by their irony and simplicity. She received a BA in English Literature from Willamette University of Salem, Oregon and an MFA in Studio for Interrelated Media at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston; she currently teaches at the University of Massachusetts and maintains www.lizrodda.com.
