Wayne Ashley

Wayne Ashley is an independent new media creator, curator, and consultant. He held the position of curator of new media, Thundergulch, the new media arts initiative of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) where he organized public programming around art and technology issues. He has collaborated with choreographer Ralph Lemon, ASU and Walker Art Center on House[raw], a three-year multidisciplinary online project; and curated an online exhibit for Nikelab.com.

From 1999 to 2001, Ashley was the first Manager of New Media at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music), one of America's foremost presenters of contemporary music, opera, theater, dance and film from around the world. He was hired to establish BAM's New Media Department; design, direct, and implement Arts in Multimedia (AIM), a research, art and technology project with Bell Labs. He produced and presented works by Mark Hansen/Ben Rubin, Paul Kaiser, and John Jesurun, and conceived and directed web documentaries on David Rousseve and Ralph Lemon. He curated Under_score, an online exhibition of net art, sound, and essays from Australia as part of BAM's Next Wave Down Under Festival 2001. Ashley has an MA and Ph.D. from New York University's Performance Studies Department.

    Video History: Making Connections convened October 16-18, 1998 at Syracuse University in conjunction with the Common Ground Conference; it brought together over 250 media makers active in the 70s and artists working in new media and interactive technologies.     The Media Arts In Transition was a conference organized and cosponsored by Walker Art Center in association with National Alliance of Media Arts Centers, Minneapolis College of Art and Design and University Community Video and Film in the Cities, held June 8-11, 1983.
