Carolee Schneemann

Carolee Schneemann is a multidisciplinary artist who has transformed the very definition of art, especially with regard to discourse on the body, sexuality and gender.

Her video, film, painting, photography, performance art and installation works have been shown at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, NYC, the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, the New Museum of Contemporary Art, NYC, and just recently in a retrospective at P.P.O.W. Gallery, NYC entitled, "Embodied".

In 2002 Imaging Her Erotics: Essays, Interviews, Projects was published by MIT Press; previous published books include More Than Meat Joy: Complete Performance Work and Selected Writing (1979, 1997); ABC-We Print Anything-In The Cards; Cezanne, She Was A Great Painter (1976). She lives and works in New Paltz, NY.

    Caroline Koebel is a filmmaker who has exhibited at US venues including Anthology Film Archives, Los Angeles Film Forum, Other Cinema and MadCat Festival and internationally in Brazil, Cuba, Ireland, Thailand and Poland; recent solo screenings include Millennium Film Workshop in NYC and Artist's Television Access in San Francisco. Her practice is informed by conceptual art, feminist film and literary theory and a punk DIY ethos and engages writing and curating; examples include the catalogue essay Color the Shadow on Carolee Schneemann and programs she curated as a Board Member of the Film-Makers' Coop; she holds a BA in Film Studies from UC Berkeley and an MFA in Visual Arts from UCSD and lives in Brooklyn; website http://www.carolinekoebel.com.

  • Barbara Rosenthal People

    Barbara Rosenthal (born 17 August 1948) is a New York–based conceptual polyartist who has produced photographs, videos, super/8 films, objects, games, performances, book-art and interactive novelties; her work was shown at The Jewish Museum (Time and Memory: Video Art and Identity, 1988) and the Center For Photography in Woodstock (Time, Memory, and the Limits of Photography, 1995), and is held by The Whitney Museum and MoMA. She studied at the Brooklyn Museum Art School, Art Students' League (1964–66), earned a B.F.A. from Carnegie-Mellon (1970) and an M.F.A. from Queens College/CUNY (1973), and has taught at numerous institutions including Tisch School of the Arts/NYU and CUNY/College of Staten Island (teaching Writing since 1992); published books include Clues to Myself (1981), Sensations (1984), Homo Futurus (1996) and Soul & Psyche (1999).

    Kristine Marx holds a BA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA from Hunter College; she has served as lecturer at the Whitney Museum of American Art and at the Hudson River Museum and has curated shows for several galleries in Manhattan. Her work has been exhibited at Plane Space, NY and in group exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Canada and Germany. She has received awards from the Bronx Museum of Art, the Arts Project of Japan and Hunter College, including Schloss Plueschow (Germany), AIM at the Bronx Museum (NY) and the William Graf Travel Scholarship (Hunter College); she worked in the Residency Program at the Experimental Television Center and lists www.kristinemarx.net.

  • Krista Hoefle People

    Krista Hoefle is Associate Professor and Gallery Director at Saint Marys College, Notre Dame, Indiana; she runs the Moreau Art Galleries, teaches Foundations and Sculpture in the Department of Art, and independently curates media exhibitions. She is a faculty/founding member of gvolt and faculty advisor for the Anime Club; her exhibitions include Vespine Gallery (IL), Hanover Gallery (IN), Urban Institute for Contemporary Art (MI), Kika Gallery (Hungary), Jones Center for Contemporary Art (TX) and Swarm Gallery (CA). Her studio practice is informed by the visual language and narrative conventions of the abject, referencing Simon Critchley; she works in video, web and installation formats and employs generative software and technological processes to examine archetypal characters and perpetuity.
