Caroline Koebel

Caroline Koebel is a filmmaker who has exhibited in the US at Anthology Film Archives, Los Angeles Film Forum, Other Cinema, MadCat Festival, and elsewhere, and internationally, including in Brazil, Cuba, Ireland, Thailand, and Poland. Recent solo screenings include Millennium Film Workshop in NYC and Artist's Television Access in San Francisco. Transmissions of conceptual art, feminist film and literary theory, and punk DIY ethos guide her in work that embraces pleasure and desire as tactics to displace authoritarianism, commodity culture, and the endangerment of subjective experience.

Drawing breath from experimental film pioneers such as Germaine Dulac and Maya Deren, Koebel situates writing and curating firmly within her creative practice, with examples including the catalogue essay "Color the Shadow" on Carolee Schneemann and programs she has curated as a Board Member of the Film-Makers' Coop. She holds a BA in Film Studies from UC Berkeley and an MFA in Visual Arts from UCSD, and lives in Brooklyn. http://www.carolinekoebel.com.

Awards and support include the Center For Land Use Interpretation (Wendover, UT), Wexner Center for the Arts (OH), Danish Film Institute Workshop (Copenhagen), Illinois Arts Council Artist's Fellowships, the Gecko Award (CinemaTexas), THAW Best of Festival and CUFF Best Experimental Film.

    Barbara Lattanzi is an artist whose practice involves constructing and applying "cinema software"; she has written and applied digital code for projects including motion-picture riffing and improvisation (Unwriting), remediation of particular "structuralist" films of the 1970s (HF Critical Mass), reexamination of the sing-along as ideology critique (C-SPAN Karaoke), and perceptual experimentation with extended-duration moving-image structures (Optical De-dramatization Engine).     Erik Moskowitz makes installations and films that examine the relationship between cinema space and gallery space; solo installation exhibitions at Momenta Art, Freight and Volume, Holiday (NYC) and Le Sous Salon (Paris); festival screenings at Impakt (Netherlands), Antimatter (Canada), Oberhausen (Germany), Experimenta (India), Press Play (Carnegie Mellon) and Experiments in Cinema (University of New Mexico); website http://www.americantrance.com/.   • Courtney Rile People

    Courtney Rile is an artist, curator and arts coordinator based in Syracuse, NY; her video art has been shown internationally and locally, including the first Syracuse International Film and Video Festival. In 2005 she curated the moving-images program Videohm at an upscale lounge and bar in Syracuse, presenting nearly 300 hours of international experimental film and video and VJ work; she also coordinated the exhibition Clement Greenberg In Syracuse: Then & Now at ThINC's Company Gallery that year. She is Gallery Coordinator at Delavan Art Gallery and holds an A.A. in TV/Radio/Film from Montgomery County Community College, PA, and a B.F.A. in Video Art from Syracuse University, NY.

  • Carolee Schneemann People

    Carolee Schneemann is a multidisciplinary artist whose work addresses the body, sexuality and gender; her video, film, painting, photography, performance and installation works have been exhibited at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA, the Centre Georges Pompidou and the New Museum, and in a retrospective at P.P.O.W. Gallery, NYC entitled Embodied. In 2002 Imaging Her Erotics: Essays, Interviews, Projects was published by MIT Press; earlier books include More Than Meat Joy: Complete Performance Work and Selected Writing (1979, 1997), ABC-We Print Anything-In The Cards, and Cezanne, She Was A Great Painter (1976). She lives and works in New Paltz, NY.
