Yvonne Buchanan is a multi-disciplinary artist focusing on illustration, drawing, video and film. Buchanan 's work strives to bring the peripheral into focus, to render the invisible visible in ordinary experience. I accomplish this through the manipulation of video footage, which alters the familiar. Her work deals with gender, race, and spirituality.. Buchanan s videos and films have been screened national including Anthology Film Archives, New York, Slamdance Film Festival, Park City/ New York, Roxbury Film Festival, Boston, the Studio Museum in Harlem and the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, New York.. Her political illustrations have appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post. Los Angeles Times, Village Voice, The Nation and Newsday. Her children's book illustrations have been published by Simon and Schuster, Scholastic Magazines, Hyperion Books, Lee and Low Books, Silver Burdett Publishing and Rabbit Ears Productions. Yvonne Buchanan was born in New York City, and now resides in Syracuse, New York, where she teaches illustration and narrative drawing at Syracuse University.
