Yvonne Buchanan

Yvonne Buchanan is a multi-disciplinary artist focusing on illustration, drawing, video and film. Buchanan's work strives to bring the peripheral into focus, to render the invisible visible in ordinary experience. I accomplish this through the manipulation of video footage, which alters the familiar. Her work deals with gender, race, and spirituality.

Buchanan's videos and films have been screened national including Anthology Film Archives, New York, Slamdance Film Festival, Park City/New York, Roxbury Film Festival, Boston, the Studio Museum in Harlem and the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, New York. Her political illustrations have appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post. Los Angeles Times, Village Voice, The Nation and Newsday. Her children's book illustrations have been published by Simon and Schuster, Scholastic Magazines, Hyperion Books, Lee and Low Books, Silver Burdett Publishing and Rabbit Ears Productions.

Yvonne Buchanan was born in New York City, and now resides in Syracuse, New York, where she teaches illustration and narrative drawing at Syracuse University. Information about Buchanan's films and video can be found at www.buchananmediaprojects.com.

    Nancy Buchanan is a Los Angeles-based artist and CalArts (Valencia) instructor whose work has been shown in the U.S. and Europe; she has received fellowship support from the Rockefeller Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts and the California Arts Council.     Linda Iannacone is an artist, video producer, activist and educator who taught video production, media literacy and visual arts to adults and youth through MNN, Educational Video Center, DCTV, Paper Tiger TV, Henry Street Settlement House and international programs in Vienna and at NGBK. With Paper Tiger TV she produced programs including Drawing the Line at Pittston (covering an 11 month coal miners strike), Staking a Claim in Cyberspace (on changing information technologies and media access), and Rock Paper, Missiles (a critique of U.S. support for the Israeli occupation of Palestine); she also produced the documentary AMOK!, about a radical gender bending circus traveling through New York City communities, and she states a belief in holistic activism employing art, music, voice and action toward social justice.

    Madeleine Gallagher is a video and visual artist whose work investigates physical and visual sensation, endurance, perceptual thresholds and phenomenology; trained in Painting and Sculpture, she began making video through performance art. Her practice involves live video performance collaborations with experimental musicians; she has exhibited and performed at Goliath Visual Space, The Baltimore Contemporary Museum of Art, The Maryland Institute College of Art, Free 103.9 Gallery, Galapagos Art Space, The Brooklyn New Workshop Theater and Rake AV, and teaches video at The Massachusetts College of Art.

    Sheri Wills is a video and digital media artist and an associate professor of art at The University of Rhode Island; she holds an MFA in filmmaking and an MA in Modern Art History, Theory and Criticism from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Regus London Film Festival, and the International Film Festival in Rotterdam; professional website http://www.sheriwills.com/.

    Carolee Schneemann is a multidisciplinary artist whose work addresses the body, sexuality and gender; her video, film, painting, photography, performance and installation works have been exhibited at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA, the Centre Georges Pompidou and the New Museum, and in a retrospective at P.P.O.W. Gallery, NYC entitled Embodied. In 2002 Imaging Her Erotics: Essays, Interviews, Projects was published by MIT Press; earlier books include More Than Meat Joy: Complete Performance Work and Selected Writing (1979, 1997), ABC-We Print Anything-In The Cards, and Cezanne, She Was A Great Painter (1976). She lives and works in New Paltz, NY.

  • Laurie Beth Clark People

    Laurie Beth Clark was raised in New York City and holds a B.A., an M.A. in Visual Arts and an M.F.A.; since 1985 she has lived in Madison, Wisconsin, where she teaches Installation and Video and has held administrative roles. Her multidisciplinary practice uses video, performance, installation and multimedia to examine social issues; projects in Germany consider the holocaust and other genocides, and she is developing international research on trauma memorials and shopping environments. She received fellowships from Jerome and McKnight and published in anthologies such as A Performance Cosmology (Routledge, 2006).
