Deirtra Thompson

Deirtra Thompson is a New York and Baltimore-based artist who works with film, video, and sculpture. Using both linear and experimental narrative forms, Thompson creates fictional environments that mirror and mutate real world structures in order to explore the relationships between language, labor, and systems of authority. Thompson was a 2008-2009 Princess Grace Foundation award winner.

  • Kathleen Ruiz People

    Kathleen Ruiz is a media artist and Associate Professor of Integrated Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute who creates simulations, games, sculpture and photography; her work investigates perception, behavior, interaction, simulation, perspective and empathy. She holds a Master of Arts from New York University and is a doctoral candidate (abd) at the European Graduate School. She has received awards and commissions from the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation and New York City and State arts agencies; her work was sponsored by Sony Computer Entertainment in Europe and has been exhibited and reviewed internationally.

    Deborah Johnson, aka CandyStations, is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer who works as a traveling video performer and has designed visuals and sets for Sufjan Stevens, Wilco, Chocolat & Akito, Calexico, and Lambchop; when home she produces web, print, animation and video projects and has exhibited worldwide in group and solo shows. In January 2008 she collaborated with Truckstop Media's Braden King and musician Shahzad Ismaily on an installation and performance at Sundance's New Frontiers, and in August 2008 she attended the Digital Media Residency at the Atlantic Center for the Arts where she worked and performed with German audio artist Carsten Nicolai.   • Laura Parnes People

    Laura Parnes is an artist working in narrative film and video who creates non-linear narratives as site-specific installations that use stylized sets and often require audiences to enter scripted environments. She has screened and exhibited widely at institutions including the Whitney, MoMA and Museo Reina Sofia and has had solo shows in London, Miami and New York. She held residencies at Montalvo Arts Center and Wexner Center, received Finishing Funds from the Experimental Television Center and support from the New York State Council on the Arts, has taught at NYU and is Visiting Artist at Cooper Union; she earned a BFA from Tyler School of Art in 1990.

    Melinda Barlow is Associate Professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder; she joined CU in 1996 after teaching at New York University, the School of Visual Arts, and Queens College, City University of New York. She edited Mary Lucier: Art and Performance (2000, Johns Hopkins University Press) and is a film and video historian specializing in contemporary independent women film and videomakers; her articles have appeared in journals including Camera Obscura and Art Journal. She received the Lyn Blumenthal Memorial Award and a CU Center for the Humanities and the Arts Fellowship in 2005; she founded the Leah Kelly Memorial Award and has a forthcoming book, Lost Objects of Desire (University of Minnesota Press).
