Laura McGough

Nomads was founded by a group of artists, curators and arts administrators dedicated to exploring the cross-section of art and technology. They view the Web as a vital mechanism for the collective creation and dissemination of work by artists, for artists.

Laura McGough is a curator, critic and media artist. Since 1990 she has organized media and visual art exhibitions for organizations in the US, Ireland, Canada and Australia. Her articles on media art, new media and technology have appeared in FUSE Magazine (Canada), MESH (Australia), inContext (N. Ireland), New Arts Examiner, Fiber Arts and Sculpture, performance Research and on-line journals as well. McGough has also contributed to Inuit Media from Igloolik, forthcoming in 1999.

She has presented performative lectures on new media, cyberfeminism and net.art throughout the US and Canada and serves as the co-director of NOMADS, a virtual arts organization located on the World Wide Web at www.nomadnet.org. McGough is presently Multidisciplinary Specialist at the National Endowment for the Arts. She has been artist in residence at the Tariagsuk Video Centre in Igloolik, and taught at the University of Maryland.

  • Wayne Ashley People

    Wayne Ashley is an independent new media creator, curator, and consultant who was curator of new media for Thundergulch at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, organizing public programming on art and technology. He collaborated on House[raw], a three-year multidisciplinary online project, and curated an online exhibit for Nikelab.com. From 1999 to 2001 he was the first Manager of New Media at BAM, where he established the New Media Department and designed Arts in Multimedia (AIM) with Bell Labs; he produced and presented works and web documentaries, curated Under_score for BAM's Next Wave Down Under Festival 2001, and holds an MA and Ph.D. from New York University.

  • Michele Thursz People

    Michele Thursz is an independent curator and director of Post Media Network; in 1999 she co-founded and directed Moving Image Gallery, NYC. Recent projects include a collaboration in a production with the electronic orphanage and artist Miltos Manetas and a guest curator role at the New Museum's Media Z Lounge organizing Cin-o-matic- Memory and the Cinematic Perception, which examined the impact of new technologies on the cinematic experience. She is organizing a group show entitled In Medias Res: Technology's Impact on Artistic Practice at Exit Art, NYC; she has consulted for http://www.Turbulence.org, a net art initiative, and for bitforms gallery, NYC, on marketing and distribution of software related art.

  • Melinda Rackham People

    Melinda Rackham is an artist and writer based in Sydney, Australia; she has worked online since the mid 1990s from the domain www.subtle.net, creating imaginal and hypertextual sites that explore online identity, locality, sexuality, community, viral symbiosis and trans species relations. She is undertaking a Phd in Virtual Media at College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales; her writing has appeared in Ctheory, Culture Machine, Leonardo and Realtime, and she has presented at Contagion (Australia), Invencao (Brazil) and Consciousness Reframed (Wales). She has held residencies at Polar Circuit (Finland) and Discovery at Banff Center for the Arts (Canada); her award-winning web works have been included in Beyond Interface, Arco Electronico, Perspecta, Transmediale, File, Art Entertainment Network, The Montreal Biennale, European Media Art Festival and ISEA.
