Lisa Crafts

The work of Lisa Crafts is characterized by richly rendered imagery and a quietly quirky sensibility. Her independent animated films have ranged from a meditation on the role creativity plays in the survival of the human spirit, to a funky romp through the land of human sexuality. These works have been shown in Europe, Japan, and throughout North America. Her commissioned animations include pieces created for music television, Sesame Street, American Movie Classics, as well as titles and animation for documentaries by Michel Negroponte and Cindy Kleine.

In addition to animated films, Crafts also paints quietly disturbing psychological landscapes which capture the dreamlike dissonance of the American roadside. They have been exhibited at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in L.A., and Cavin-Morris Gallery in New York City. https://www.lisacrafts.com/.

    Lisa DiLillo is an artist based in New York city who makes video installations, videos and photographs; her recent work stages interactions between human constructs and other lifeforms, notably insects and birds engaging automatic voice recognition systems, clocks, diagrams and currency. She received a Jerome Foundation Grant, an Electronic Arts Grant and residencies at The Experimental Television Center, curated the Knitting Factory Video Lounge from 1996–98, and has exhibited at the Walker Art Center; she has collaborated with musicians and dancers Scanner, David Shea and Meg Stuart.

    Sandra Gibson is an award-winning independent filmmaker whose animated films have been shown in museums and galleries such as Anthology Film Archives and Northwest Film Center; her work has screened at festivals including the Rotterdam International Film Festival, Independent Exposure, the Empire State Film Festival and the Ann Arbor Film Festival and has won awards at the Black Maria Film Festival, the New England Film and Video Festival and the South Beach Animation Festival. Her practice combines abstraction and false narratives using hand-made elements, found footage and computer-generated elements; she holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and has studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

  • Lisa Steele People

    Lisa Steele studied Literature at the University of Missouri and immigrated to Canada in 1968; her videotapes were shown internationally, including the Venice Biennale (1980) and Museum of Modern Art (NYC). She co-founded V tape and FUSE, engaged in anti-censorship from 1980, chaired the New Media Program at the Ontario College of Art and taught video from 1981, and served on the Art Gallery of Ontario Board of Trustees (1993–97). Since 1983 she has collaborated with Kim Tomczak on videotapes, performances and photo/text works; they were surveyed at the AGO (1989–90), won the Bell Canada Award and a Toronto Arts Award in 1993, and premiered The Blood Records at MoMA in 1996.

    Barbara Lattanzi is an artist whose practice involves constructing and applying "cinema software"; she has written and applied digital code for projects including motion-picture riffing and improvisation (Unwriting), remediation of particular "structuralist" films of the 1970s (HF Critical Mass), reexamination of the sing-along as ideology critique (C-SPAN Karaoke), and perceptual experimentation with extended-duration moving-image structures (Optical De-dramatization Engine).
