Luciana Sanz and Amoeba Technology

Luciana Sanz is an Argentinian video artist, technologist and writer based in NYC. She has received her education in Argentina, Italy and New York, graduating with Honors with a double major BFA in Film/Video Production and Literature from Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. She received a full academic scholarship from Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, where she completed her Masters degree and directed the project Z-Hive, designing and developing an immersive environment.

She received first prize in the Poetry Category from the Buenos Aires Cultural Council for Young Writers in a juried competition on creative writing in 1997. Sanz has conducted visual research, design and content creation at the Experimental TV Center, NY, working with the Center's unique tool set and integrating it into innovative forms. For three years she was a full-time researcher and systems integration designer at the Hayden Planetarium, Museum of Natural History, where she implemented 3-D graphic systems for multiple projections, immersive environments and surround sound. In 2001 she joined the pioneering New York audiovisual group Amoeba Technology, with whom she has traveled throughout the globe as videographer and multimedia artist, performing live video and screening works in places such as The Kitchen (NYC), Symphony Space (NYC), Basel Art Fair (Basel, Switzerland), Spannwerk (Berlin, Germany), Forum des Images (Paris, France), Center for Modern Art PRIBOY (St. Petersburg, Russia).

She has directed, shot and edited over 10 films and videos which have been released on various experimental video labels in the US and abroad. Luciana Sanz composes imaginary landscapes through the visualization of sensory experiences: collaborating closely with musicians to achieve a unified audiovisual expression; incorporating camerawork, image processing and live video sequencing/mixing; blending art and technology, reality and abstraction to construct enveloping multimedia environments of perceptive unrealities and oniric states of mind. http://www.focusfovea.net http://www.amoebatechnology.net

    Luciana Sanz performs as Lu(x)z and is a member of the collective Amoeba Technology; Amoeba comprises electronic musicians, djs, video artists, filmmakers and environmental architects and since the early 1990s has performed, created and curated productions presented in Berlin, Brazil, Amsterdam and Paris. The collective has also performed widely in New York at Tonic, Dumbo, the Williamsburg Art Center, Combustive Arts, the Bang on a Can Festival at Symphony Space, Yale University and Pseudo Space. Sanz, an Argentinian video artist based in Brooklyn, NYC, focuses on live real-time video processing via software and external hardware controllers and on projecting captured and processed film and video onto multiple mapped surfaces for live manipulation and compositing.

  • Simone Carneiro People

    Simone Carneiro (born 1978) is an Austro-Brazilian mixed media artist based in Vienna; she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and works in paintings, collages, audio/video performances and installations. She has produced computer animations since 1998 and worked artistically and professionally with film and video since 2002. In 2004 she was a guest at the ETC with the NY-based audio visual collective Amoeba Technology, where she used and experimented with the available equipment; most recently she is also creating music.

  • Camille Utterback People

    Camille Utterback (San Francisco) is a pioneering artist and programmer in interactive video installation; her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in collections including The La Caixa Foundation (Barcelona). She received a Transmediale International Media Art Festival Award (2005) and a Rockefeller Foundation New Media Fellowship (2002). She holds a BA from Williams College and a Masters degree from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University Tisch School of the Arts, and has taught in the MFA Design of Technology at Parsons School of Design and in the Interactive Telecommunication Program at New York University.

  • Igor Vamos People

    Igor Vamos is a multi-disciplinary artist from Albany, New York whose media performances reached international audiences through mainstream news; his 1994 project the Barbie Liberation Organization was reported in newspapers and on television worldwide, including The New York Times and Fohla de Sao Paolo. As a video and filmmaker his 1998 documentary Le Petomane screened at the San Francisco International Film Festival and The Black Maria Film Festival; he produces public art through his role as The Director of Media Resources for The Center for Land Use Interpretation in Los Angeles. He holds an MFA from the University of California, San Diego; he has taught at California Institute for the Arts and is currently an Assistant Professor in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Integrated Electronic Arts program.

  • Tirtza Even People

    Tirtza Even completed two graduate degrees at New York University as a Fulbright Scholar and joined the University of Michigan faculty in 2005. Since 1995 she has produced linear and interactive video works about less overt manifestations of complex social and political dynamics in Palestine, Turkey, Spain, the U.S. and Germany; her work has appeared at MoMA (New York), the Whitney Biennial and the Johannesburg Biennial and is held in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Jewish Museum of New York and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.

  • Ayoka Chenzira People

    Ayoka Chenzira is a filmmaker and media artist regarded as the first African-American woman animator and among the first to produce and direct a 35mm feature, Alma's Rainbow, which Billboard listed among top home video rentals (May 1998); her work is in collections including the Museum of Modern Art. She founded Red Carnelian Films and taught at the City college of New York, serving as Chair of Media & Communication Arts (1997–2001). She co-created the College's MFA in Media Arts Production (1995) and in 2001 accepted the William and Camille Cosby Endowed Chair of Fine Arts at Spelman College.
