Shawn Lawson

Shawn Lawson is a media artist and programmer examining the phenomena of interaction and experience. Lawson's installations perform real-time animation and video compositing by tracking human presence and motion. Unique encounters are generated for each participant.

His works have been exhibited at ACM Siggraph, IEEE Procams, ACM Multimedia, Graphite, Immedia, Chelsea Art Museum, Istanbul Contemporary Art Museum, Albany Institute of History and Art, Los Angeles Center for Digital Arts, Art Interactive Gallery, Flatfile Galleries, Dean Jensen Gallery, and more. Internationally Lawson's artwork has toured to Portugal, Brazil, Turkey, and Malaysia. He is published in the Media in Transition 5, ACM Siggraph 2006 Sketches, and ACM MultiMedia 2004 proceedings. In addition to his own work, Lawson's collaborative, Crudeoils, is represented by Dean Jensen Gallery in Milwaukee, WI and Flatfile Galleries, Chicago, IL.

Lawson studied fine arts at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh and …cole Nationale Supèrieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He received his MFA in Art and Technology Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, an Artist in Residence in the Virtual Reality Research group Stage3 at Carnegie Mellon University, and an intern at Walt Disney Imagineering with the DisneyQuest project.     Alan Powell is a video artist who works collaboratively with Connie Coleman; he was an original member of the Electron Movers and has been active in the video art scene since its early days. He resides in Bucks County, PA, and is Associate Professor of Film and Media Arts at Temple University and Director of the Undergraduate Production Sequence in Film/Media Arts; his works have been shown at The Kitchen, The Alternative Museum, The Museum of Moving Image, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Long Beach Museum and the Musee d'Arte Moderne in Paris, and have been broadcast on Swiss and Danish television as well as The Learning Channel and PBS in the United States.

  • Steve Bradley - NOMADS People

    Nomads was founded by a group of artists, curators and arts administrators dedicated to exploring the cross-section of art and technology; the collective views the Web as a mechanism for the collective creation and dissemination of work by artists. Steve Bradley practices sound performance, time-based media and material culture and collects debris from urban and suburban landscapes; his work has been exhibited at the Washington Center for Photography and Pulse Art. He curated art@radio, was artist in residence at Communication Front (Bulgaria), has performed at international festivals and is presently professor of visual art at the University of Maryland.

    Aaron Miller is an artist working in real-time, interactive and generative art who develops personalized hardware, software and audio/video instruments; he co-founded the Perpetual Art Machine, an online video art community and traveling installation.
