• Preserving the Rhizome ArtBase Preservation

  Richard Rinehart, Director of Digital Media at the Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive and Digital Media faculty at UC Berkeley, authored a September 2002 working paper for Rhizome on preserving the Rhizome ArtBase, an online archive of new media art. He advocates emulation—preferably hardware-level emulation—outlines artwork and technology metadata requirements, recommends tools and collection policies, and urges obtaining and archiving legal copies of software alongside a storage-migration plan using optical/read-only media and backups. He recommends Rhizome prepare metadata, storage and policy solutions and join collaborative projects to test open-source hardware emulators.

• Nicholas Economos People

  Nicholas Economos is an artist and educator in rural Western New York whose practice includes interactive media, sound, video, animation and prints. He is Site Editor for Rhizome.org at The New Museum of Contemporary Art in NYC, edits the Rhizome web site and Rhizome Rare email list, and received an Individual Artist Project Grant from New York State Council on the Arts. He has exhibited at numerous venues, was a frequent artist-in-residence at the Experimental Television Center in Owego, New York, and is a visiting professor in the Department of Expanded Media at Alfred University.

• Lauren Cornell People

  Lauren Cornell is Executive Director of Rhizome and oversees the organization's programs to promote and contextualize new media art. She started with Rhizome in May 2005. Previously she worked as a curator, writer and arts administrator in New York, including on the Andy Warhol Film Project at the Whitney Museum and as Executive Director of Ocularis from 2002–2004; she also worked as a youth media educator and organizer, has been published in international and online art outlets, and has curated screenings, exhibitions and performances at venues in New York, London and Warsaw.

• Rachael Greene People

  Rachael Greene worked in digital and art contexts; before rejoining Rhizome.org in June 2002 she wrote freelance and served on the boards of Rhizome.org and PARTICIPANT Inc., while developing television properties at Funny Garbage in New York City. Prior to Funny Garbage she worked at America Online while attending the Whitney Independent Study Program as a Helena Rubinstein Critical Studies Fellow; she was Editor at Rhizome.org from 1997 through 1999 and has written for ArtForum, Frieze and Bomb. She was educated at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Sussex; her book on Internet Art from Thames & Hudson will be out in early 2004.
