Kabir Carter People

Kabir Carter studied electroacoustic composition at Bard College and produces live, interactive sound works, live installations/performances and sound installations; his works have been presented at Diapason, Atlantic Center for the Arts, Creative Time, Dorsch Gallery, PS122 Gallery, d.u.m.b.o. arts center and in public presentations throughout New York City. He has online projects at Rhizome.org and LiveJournal and continues to realize Walking in the City, a net art project first commissioned by the Miami-based music festival Subtropics; he has been artist-in-residence at LMCC/Workspace: 120 Broadway and is a guest composer in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Create @ iEAR residency. Carter has received awards from Media Alliance and Rhizome.

Kai Beverly-Whittemore People

Kai Beverly-Whittemore, born in 1983, posed for photographer Jock Sturges as a child; her first feature, Body of Work (2010), was invited to ifp labs (2007–08) and she was awarded a place in the 2010 AFI Directing Workshop for Women. Her shorts Elsa Over Head (2004) and Unfixed (2005) screened at DocFilms and the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, and her short screenplay Half a Stop received honorable mention from Killer Films/Massify.com in June 2009; she works as a freelance filmmaker and production designer from a home studio in Brooklyn.

Karen Brummund People

Karen Brummund is a visual artist working with drawing, time and space; she creates time-based drawings of architecture and installs photocopies, drawings and videos directly on buildings. She has collaborated with Pezo von Ellrichsausen Architects in Chile and produces public, participatory and studio-based projects; commissions have been for organizations in Atlanta, Ireland, London and Buffalo. Photographs and videos of her installations have shown at Visual Studies Workshop (Rochester, 2010), the Everson Museum (Syracuse, 2008) and the East End Film Festival (London, 2007); she received a Masters of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of East London and was a 2010 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow in Architecture and Environmental Structures.

Karen Helmerson People

Karen Helmerson is Director of the Electronic Media and Film Program and has worked with independent and community-based media for over 20 years; she served as Deputy Director of Film/Video Arts and as Associate Director of the Educational Video Center. As former chair of the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) International Committee she traveled throughout the US, Canada, Europe and Japan speaking on access, literacy and development; she has exhibited as a video artist, served on the board of the Media Alliance and was recently a NYSCA Arts in Education panelist.

Karen Hibbard People

Karen Hibbard holds an MFA from Concordia University; she exhibited at Studio XX and Bourget Gallery in Montreal, Red Head Gallery in Toronto, eyesaw gallery in Tokyo, and Show World in New York City. She undertook residencies at the Banff Centre for the Arts, Pouch COve and St. Jean Port Jolie and received grants from the Canada Council and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Quebec.

Karl Bode People

Karl Bode was born in Binghamton, NY; he spent the better part of a decade working in Manhattan in information technology. He moved back to the area and earns a living as an online journalist and poet; he has written professionally for technology websites including Broadband Reports and Techdirt.com.

Karolina Sobecka People

Poland native Karolina Sobecka works with interactivity, physical computing, video, animation and other media; her practice is informed by advances in science and technology and their repercussions in popular culture. She holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Calarts in Experimental Animation/Integrated Media; she studied and taught in the University of Washington's Digital Arts and Experimental Media PhD program. Her work has been exhibited at festivals and galleries worldwide; she has received awards including Creative Capital and the Princess Grace Foundation.

Katherine Behar People

Katherine Behar is an interdisciplinary artist based in New York City whose installations, performances and videos mix low and high technologies to portray sensuous experience in digital media. Her practice is guided by the principle of placing Matter over Mind and emphasizes camaraderie with the physical armatures that uphold bits and bytes. Recent projects have been presented at venues across Europe and the United States; she has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and at Hunter College, where she is pursuing an MFA in Combined Media.

Katherine Liberovskaya People

Katherine Liberovskaya is a video and media artist based in Montreal and New York; she has worked in experimental video since the late eighties and produced single-channel videos, installations and performances. Her recent practice centers on collaborations with new-music composers and sound artists and, since 2003, on live video mixing and improvisation with numerous musicians. She organized events with Studio XX in Montreal (programming coordinator 1996–1998; president 2001–2003), Espace Vidéographe and Experimental Intermedia, NY (Screen Compositions 2005–2007), and co-presented the OptoSonic Tea series with Ursula Scherrer at Diapason in NYC.

Kathleen Ruiz People

Kathleen Ruiz is a media artist and Associate Professor of Integrated Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute who creates simulations, games, sculpture and photography; her work investigates perception, behavior, interaction, simulation, perspective and empathy. She holds a Master of Arts from New York University and is a doctoral candidate (abd) at the European Graduate School. She has received awards and commissions from the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation and New York City and State arts agencies; her work was sponsored by Sony Computer Entertainment in Europe and has been exhibited and reviewed internationally.

Kathy Brew People

Kathy Brew works in media and contemporary art; she directed Thundergulch at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council from 1997 to 2001 and served on New York new media advisory committees. She sits on Eyebeam Atelier's Curatorial Committee and was Exhibition Director for Beta Launch. As a video-maker she collaborated with Roberto Guerra on work shown at the MIT Media Lab exhibition ID/entity Portraits in the 21st Century, which was selected for the 2003 International Festival of Art on Film in Montreal; she has received two Emmys (1999, 2000).

Kathy Rae Huffman People

Kathy Rae Huffman is Director of Visual Arts at Cornerhouse, Manchester; from June 2000 to May 2002 she directed Hull Time Based Arts and the ROOT festival. From 1998 to 2000 she was Associate Professor of Electronic Art and director of EMAC at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, researching female environments on the Internet, 3D online environments and telepresence. She curated new media exhibitions at Cornerhouse including Grace Weir A Fine Line and Lab3D, co-organized Web3Dart (from 1999), co-initiated the FACES network and collaborated with Eva Wohlgemuth on FACE SETTINGS and SIBERIAN DEAL; earlier curatorial posts include WGBH/ICA, The ICA and Long Beach Museum of Art.

Katie Halper People

Katie Halper is a New York City comedian, documentary filmmaker, and activist; she graduated from Wesleyan University in 2003 and worked as development director for DCTV while coordinating living-wage and labor campaigns in NYC and Florida. She was associate producer of Estela Bravo's Free to Fly and co-produced Tim Robbins' Embedded; she served as outreach director for Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis's The Take. Her documentary La Memoria es Vaga screened at film festivals in Spain and the U.S.; she performs comedy in the city and hosts the monthly show Red Diaper Baby Presents.

Katie Salen is a game designer and Director of the graduate Design and Technology program at Parsons School of Design; she has done game design work for Microsoft, SIGGRAPH, the Hewlett Foundation, XMediaLab, the Design Institute, gameLab and mememe Productions. She is co-author with Eric Zimmerman of Rules of Play and the forthcoming Rules of Play Reader and a member of Playground, a design team focused on large-scale experimental, real-world games. She partnered with Hampton Fancher on a Microsoft XEN project for Xbox Live, curated machinima programs at Lincoln Center and other venues including ZKM and the Walker Art Center, and has lectured and published on game design and game culture internationally.

Katsuyuki Hattori People

Katsuyuki Hattori is a Japanese video artist; studied engineering at Nippon Engineering College and film/video making at the San Francisco Art institute. Big Mouth Productions, founded in 1997 by Katy Chevigny and Julia Pimsleur, produces social-issue documentaries; it has made six feature-length films that premiered at Sundance, Berlin and South by Southwest, has won festival awards and been broadcast on HBO Signature, Cinemax and public television. Funders include the Independent Television Service, the Ford Foundation and the Soros Documentary Fund; Katy Chevigny produced Innocent Until Proven Guilty and Nuyorican Dream, produced Journey to the West: Chinese Medicine Today, co-directed Deadline (Sundance 2004), is producing and directing The Dishes and oversees MediaRights.org.
